AMI was founded in 1966 in Santa Clara, CA. and established its manufacturing facility in Pocatello, Idaho, in 1970.
AMI was very successful in the early 1970s when it had 50% share of the MOSFET IC market.
Their concentration on the 6800 family then was undoubtably due to the fact that they apparently targeted automotive applications from the beginning.
The 6800 was the CPU of choice for that due to Motorola's strong hold on that market at that time.
AMI designs and manufactures integrated mixed-signal
and structured digital devices that are used in electronics products in the automotive, medical and industrial markets.
AMI should not be confused with American Megatrends, Inc., makers of AMI BIOS.
