Mostek was founded 1969 as a spin-off of Texas Instruments.

Mostek made logic, memory, and microprocessor chips. Their microprocessors were second source versions of the Zilog Z80, the Fairchild F8 and the Motorola 68000.

United Technologies bought Mostek in 1980, SGS-Thomson aquires Mostek from United Technologies in 1987 for $71M and fires 80% of the workers.
